A SERENE ESCAPE

PREMIUM OUTDOOR LIVING

With its cottage architecture and charm, this gorgeous home, built in 1898, needed an outdoor space to match. tim davies Landscaping was enlisted to design and build an area in which the existing trees, wisteria and citrus would look at home.

Partial to a classic palette of green and white, the clients provided tim davies Landscaping with a detailed brief, along with some images for inspiration. shaded by ancient jacaranda and carob trees, the garden’s sloping landscape was utilised by leaving the end wall of the pool exposed. this has created an intimate sunken area, and conversation pit – a perfect hangout for the clients’ teenaged children.

The rectangular pool, installed by Future Pools, is surrounded by a hedge that is styled as a moat. this simultaneously separates the pool from the lawn and eliminates the need for a fence, while still adhering to the Building code of Australia (BcA).

A custom corten and bluestone koi pond, designed by Flux impressions, trails down one side of the yard and wraps around one of the original jacarandas, giving the illusion of the tree sprouting from the water.

Strategic outdoor lighting illuminates the pool and trees at night, casting leafy shadows on the fences. An extended pergola and mahogany timber deck, installed by seabreeze Outdoor, overlooks the entire area – the perfect spot to relax and soak up the serenity.

Established in 1983 by tim davies, a former president of the industry Association of Western Australia (LiAWA), tim davies Landscaping is a leading landscape architecture practice that specialises in the design, construction and maintenance of quality residential, commercial, civic and remote landscapes.

Tim Davies Landscaping was named the overall winner for the contractor – residential category at the 2016 LiAWA Awards of excellence night. in addition to this prestigious award, the company achieved a record-beating total of five winning projects and three finalist certificates.

Project 1

A RESIDENTIAL RAINFOREST

THE AMAZON MEETS THE SUBURBS

For this project, tim davies Landscaping (tdL) created a contemporary and relaxed atmosphere, which complements the house and pool that was constructed by Oswald homes.

The mature Amber tree at the front of the house is a striking feature that inspired the home’s overall garden design. As well as creating kerbside appeal, tdL transformed the rear outdoor area into a tranquil and private landscape, which encourages casual meandering and lazy afternoons lounging by the pool.

Using only the finest-quality materials, tdL used products from Amazon soils and Watergarden Warehouse, as well as plants from the company’s own nursery. using a combination of trees, shrubs, accent plants and climbers, tdL has created a beautiful and low-maintenance garden full of lush green foliage.

Established in 1983 by tim davies, a former president of the Landscape industries Association, tdL is a leading landscape architecture practice that specialises in the design, construction and maintenance of quality residential, commercial, civic and remote landscapes.

The recipient of a number of awards, including awards at the Landscape industries Association of WA, the company is based in Perth, but has the resources to undertake projects anywhere in Australia.

TDL goes above and beyond to ensure its clients are left with a beautiful outdoor landscape that can be admired for years to come.

Project 2

A FOLIAGE-FILLED NEW HOME

REDEFINING EXCELLENCE

For this project, Martine holland – a senior landscape architect at tim davies Landscaping – brought an outdoor area to life. the smart design maximises the space’s potential, while also increasing its aesthetic appeal.

Showcasing a range of design features that add interest including a pool, boundary and entry walls and raised planters, as well as decorative screens, a steel dish planter and timber day bed, this beautiful landscape encompasses the very best tim davies Landscaping has to offer.

The main focus of this project was to maximise the available space and create different zones. A timber deck with a daybed has been installed adjacent to the pool for teenagers to relax and spend time with their friends, while the alfresco area is separate to the pool and acts as an extension of the main living areas.

The design also showcases bluestone paving, which connects the pool and alfresco area. each space is connected through the use of quality materials, and complementary colours and textures.

Designed as an extension of the home, the outdoor area blends perfectly with the main living zones, effectively bringing the outdoors in. the design has also been set up to maximise the sense of space through the use of existing natural vegetation as a ‘borrowed landscape’. Passive solar design principles have been incorporated through the utilisation of deciduous trees on a northerly aspect. the plant selection also aims to soften the hardscaping and complement the architectural style.
